One thing I have found out is that paving construction projects seem to have more to do with moving dirt around than actually paving something. They were out this morning moving dirt again, this time to make an overrun for the grader so that they can level off the rock that was put down in the last few days. When I was a kid, I thought operating one of these things could be fun. I still feel that way. Of course, I haven't grown up yet, so that sentiment surely would be understandable.
A friend of mine drove these large machines for most of his working life.
Apart from ending up deaf in both ears, he loved the work.
He slightly regrets being too macho to wear ear protectors.
