Day 41 - One of the frustrations I have sometimes with my scanning project is figuring out the dates. I have made it a point to push a date into the EXIF data that approximates the date taken. In the case of film that I have done, I often use the date on the package we got from the photo lab. In some cases, like a birthday, Christmas or Thanksgiving, I can put a more exact date in.

You might remember that the photo lab often stamped a date on the slide frame. That is vey handy. Unfortunately, that didn't become a standard practice right away. So I have lots of (mostly older) slide mounts that are not stamped.

But occasionally you get lucky. Today's photo is of our family watching a solar eclipse on July 20, 1963. It was total much to the north of us. It was easy to get the date with a quick Bing search. Now I can push that into the EXIF data.

I had done some reading about how to safely view the eclipse. We took out a pair of binoculars and pointed them toward the sun. By moving them back and forth you could get a nice sharp image on a piece of paper. How cool is that. Remember, easily amused.
