I ran into a photographer on the Kemah boardwalk a couple days ago and struck up a conversation with him. He was new at the hobby, with a Canon T5i and a few basic lenses. Well, our discussion was interesting. He was confused. I heard about hyperfocal distance and tack sharp images. He wasn't getting the latter because he was obsessed with the former. We talked for quite a while. I ended up giving him a card and we agreed to go take pictures somewhere. Today was the day. We went to Bay Area Park (of course) and started working on things. I think we made a lot of progress. We talked about managing depth of field and played around with that a bit. He had taken a weekend course in Rocky Mountain National Park a while ago. The instructor filled the class up with some dodgy procedures, in my mind. Additionally, Ron had been reading far too much on the internet blogs. So with some patience, I got him to thinking about better ways to do things. Of course, practice will make a lot of difference. Hopefully we will meet up again some day. I do enjoy helping people do better at whatever they are interested in.
