After doing some sanding on the leading edge of the prop and some alodine treatment, I decided that it was time to take the prop into the prop shop for an overhaul. There is not much to do with a fixed pitch propeller, but the most important thing is that they do in-depth inspections for cracks. I use a place called R&D Propeller in Pearland, Texas. These guys are great. They run a clean shop and are very friendly. Today, Joe took the time to show me how they do dye penetrant (for aluminum) and magnetic particle (for steel) inspections. It was really interesting to see how the tests are done and the equipment required for the tests. He actually did a magnetic particle test and showed me what to look for. These guys know their stuff. One thing that I didn't know is that the six prop bolts need to be magnetic particle inspected, so when I go to pick up the prop, they will do the inspection and I can help. They don't charge extra for helping.

It’s encouraging to hear that a PBase person is involved in
passivation processes. How difficult was it to apply the
chromate conversion coating? Please tell us if you got to
analyze any Pourbaix diagrams.
