We went to a couple museums today. One was the Gold museum which featured a private collection of pre-Columbian objects. It also contained the private collection of weapons, which was very interesting. All the indian artifacts were found in tombs because the Spanish stole all the easily accessible gold from the Incas and melted it down.
The other was the Larco collection. Again, a private collection of artifacts, this time mostly pottery, collected from tombs unearthed in the first half of the 20th century. All the items were well presented. We hired an English speaking guide who really helped us put the objects in perspective. One of the most interesting things to me was wandering through the collection which was not on display. There you could compare objects of similar origin. There were thousands of objets to be viewed on the shelves. Very cool.
