It is certainly frustrating when pbase bites the dust. During the current outage, I decided to go check out Flickr. I nosed around a while. I looked at Agent Listorama's stuff. I decided that I really didn't like the format and that I would stick with pbase. Besides, that's where all my friends are.
Moving from one service to another is a lot of work if one has many images: the uploading is tiresome. You are right about Flickr's format: it sucks! PBase structure is beautiful: pure hierarchy. Everything is a compromise.
