I just found this. I am so impressed but not surprised. You have always been a talented man. Maybe I can make your talk on April 2.

Hello, Sir
I ran across your comments re: Orton B. Hamby. I feel compelled to say I also found him to be an excellent teacher, and more importantly, a wonderful human being. He was my photography professor @ UT Arlington. I had just been discharged from the VA hospital in Dallas after service in Vietnam. His kindness and advise was just what I needed.
I have often thought of him over the years, and was surprised and saddened to find that he recently died a stone's throw from my present home in Virginia.
I spent my career as a photographer, which is my avocation to this day, all thanks to Orton Hamby. Rest in peace, sir!

Thanks for your many great images from Texas. I'm in Austin and came across your postings from Goliad. I'm going to Corpus through there in a couple of wks and knowing there was a lot of history there I wanted to see what was there to photograph. Your shots really help. Also, the many other locations in Texas in your galleries showed me there's a lot in my home state worthy of some camera time.

John, Not too sure how to get this message to you. I'm working with a film company in Albuquerque and we are looking for an old abandoned church to use for some scenes. The photo you have posted on PBase of the "Northern New Mexico Church" fits what we would need. Do you recall where it was? I've checked with the state film office and they don't recognize it? And info would be greatly appreciated.

I also had the pleasure of studying under Orton Hamby at University of Texas at Arlington in 1971-72. A fine gentleman and a gifted educator.

John, I strayed over some of your galleries. It makes me want to be there. Very nice work Sir! You caught the light and subjects very well. I could have stayed for a couple of hours easily. There's so much space where you live. And in Holland (The Netherlands).... Here it is so crowded. People sometimes get stressy. I'll be back in this place to get relaxed!

Thank you John and stay well.

Kind regards,

Hans de Vries

Hi, John --

I hope the Corpus shoot went well. I haven't wanted to bug you about the Frio River photo until things settled down a bit for you.

Just curious -- do you have shots of Port Aransas or South Padre Island? This would be in the "scenic " category. Or artfully shot buildings, ferry boats, etc.

I think I have figured out the Frio River shot. I'm not in any hurry, so don't stress out!

Thank you,
Judy

Dear John,

When can you come back to Marfa to take just two more photographs? I have finished landscaping with a beautiful courtyard at the north entrance of Building 98 and have installed the George Sugarman sculptures (circa 1968) in the interior courtyard. Only your art photography will do!

I have had many wonderful comments on your exceptional photography.

Hi John. Thanks for your comment in my Image By Chance gallery - appreciated. I came over for a look at your pictures, and I must say I really like the collection of themes you're working on. There are lots of good pictures, and it's hard to single out one or two, so I thought I'd comment here. Keep up the good work!

John,

I especially like your new Mission gallery. After looking through all the galleries. I think you really have a good eye for turning even a mundane subject into a very interesting photo. Keep up the good work. I hope you will post more soon.

John;
I went back and looked at your church gallery. I loved it! What I really like about it is that you don't just take a picture of the church. You walk around it, go into it, and find great detail. I have not done that and I will have to try it. Alot of times I am on my way somewhere when I spot a church steeple and go snap a quick picture and get back on my way. I will have to stop and "smell the roses" sometime. Thanks for your comments and I enjoyed your galleries very much. You are surrounded by such beauty, with the mountains! Great job! Lynne Williams
