The term slipway descibes a boat launch ramp. The older term, drawdock, generally meant a place where boats were loaded and unloaded, or repaired. For many hundreds of years the river Thames was the main highway through the city.

This appears to be a place where people can put their boats into the water. In the States we call it a boat ramp or (less commonly) a boat launch.
