I read the Wiki article about this vessel and it mentioned that it had a hoisting propeller. I guess that means it could be raised up so it doesn't produce drag. I had never heard of such a thing. I found a photo of the German gunboat Adler wrecked by a cyclone where it mentioned the well in the stern where the propeller would be hoisted into. Cool stuff. I don't know beans about boats, but they sure are interesting.
