Restoration well under way.

Barnes Railway Bridge

The bridge is now completely enclosed.
Possibly to stop any rubbish falling in the river.
In the past they never bothered, everything not wanted was dropped or thrown into the river.

Dave, this is only a guess. I think this enclosure is to contain paint particles released during cleaning. Possibly "lead" paint which is regarded as very dangerous.

Such enclosures are used in the States during sand-blasting (and maybe also painting) work.
