Tadorna 61 cm 24 in. Large goose-like duck. Nests in hollow trees and burrows or among bushes.
Winters mainly at coasts, often on mudflats. Sexes almost identical.

What to look for:
Male: Green-black head and white body with broad chesnut band, redknob over bill.
Female: As male but no red knob.
