Wow, you did that with a 105 on the D700? It is awesome! Deserves a BV! I am very impressed with the image. How could a long lens get that any better? :) Seriously, a long lens could introduce atmospheric interference and lower contrast, the nature of the beast, and it might not pop like it does.

Very cool shot, Jack! Isn't the nebula part of what we think of as Orion's sword hanging down from his belt? I'm amazed at how well it shows up!

That is wonderful!! I would thing it was a flare of some kind but you got it well. I like the pink color. Hard to beleive you can get that with a 105.00 mm lens
