A panoramic view of Sao Paulo is quite impressive. It is a massive, sprawling city, home to some 19 million. Residential apartment towers spread to the horizon in all directions, and beyond them lie expansive shantytowns. Contrary to popular conceptions, it is not terribly crime-ridden, at least not in the center. The kidnappings and carjackings that get so much press are primarily aimed at well-known executives and wealthy Brazilians driving luxury cars.
