Perito Merino glacier, in Argentina, is one of the highlights of Patagonia. What is great about this glacier is that the point at which it breaks apart and falls into its glacial lake is just opposite a peninsula that rises about 100m above the lake, giving visitors a perfect vantage point from which to see giant sheathes of ice collapse into the water, as seen in this series of four photos. The incredibly loud sound of the ice creaking and cracking as it falls into itself and into the lake is something I’ll never forget.
