The house was built in 1724. William Floyd , a Revolutionary War general and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was born there in 1734.
The Floyd family lived in the house for eight generations, so the estate contains architectural features and artifacts from three centuries of American life.
It is now part of the Fire Island National Seashore Park.
