The shorebirds belonging to the genus Tringa have long legs and usually bob their head and body when alarmed. The most common species found in Ottawa include the Solitary Sandpiper and the two Yellowlegs species. Solitary Sandpipers have greenish legs and a bold white eyering. The two yellowlegs are best differentiated by the length of the bill, which in the Greater Yellowlegs is much longer, slightly upturned, and has a pale base.
