Narrow-headed Marsh Fly (Helophilus fasciatus)

One evening I spent half an hour watching the insects feeding on the asters in my backyard. I counted six hover fly species along with several Bumblebees enjoying the feast!

Asters are insect magnets at this time of year. What fun to watch all the variety in your own yard. This is a wonderful shot. V
