When I first saw this Sawfly larva, I didn't think it was a living creature as it resembled a discarded scrap of wool or yarn. Then I recalled that some caterpillars resemble bird droppings as a type of camouflage, and took a closer look to see if this was in fact a caterpillar. It isn't a caterpillar, but it is a type of larva - the adult is a member of the Order Hymenoptera, a rather unremarkable sawfly.
