Something very interesting about this rather small chair is that, it is very much heavier than a normal wood chair of the same size. The wood used to make this old chair is petrified wood, which has it's wood mass partially replaced by quartz. This happens when the wood is left in the sea or the river and is 'attacked' by quartz containing compounds - silica is the most common of these. The weight of the quartz far exceeds the weight of wood of the same volume, this is what makes this small chair so heavy.
