Ronda Spain

Ronda is located in the mountains @ 40 miles due north of Marbella & the coast. Ronda begins it's life as the Roman town of Acinipo whose intact ruins lie some 12 miles north of present day Ronda. The Moors arrive in the 8th century and come to dominate Ronda's history until Christian armies expell the Moors in 1492. The real history of this region is found in neolithic caves, a couple of which are near Ronda.

Ronda is located atop a strategic gorge which divides the city into "old" and "new" parts. The old part of Ronda sits on the southern side of the gorge and this where the Moors built their town, palace & fortress. The "new" Ronda on the other side of the gorge comes about in the 16th century. A stone bridge is built which crosses the gorge in the early 1700s and today it is the focal point for visitors today. You'll find evidence of all of these inhabitants in and around Ronda. It's a great place for walking, dining, and exploring.
