Traffic in Hanoi is among the most chaotic I ever came across. There were no traffic lights at this junction near the Old Quarters of Hanoi; scooters, cars, trishaws, bicycles and pedestrians flowed and criss-crossed each other in all directions and not stopping to give way to others, horns blaring away incessantly; yet there seemed to be some telepathy among everybody in moving around and avoiding collision with each other.
Initially, I had problems in crossing the junction on foot even. After a while, however, you soon get the knack to it. The trick is to walk slowly, and as long as you do not SUDDENLY stop or run forward, the vehicles would know how to judge your direction of movement and avoid colliding with you!!!
