The original Jinli Street in Chengdu was said to date back to the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). It was one of the busiest commercial boulevards of the Kingdom of Shu during the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280 AD), and was known as the "First Street of the Shu Kingdom".

The present-day Jinli Street as it is now, is located next to the Wuhou Si (Temple of the Marquis Wu). It is a recent reconstruction completed in end 2004, comprising a narrow, stone-paved road lined by modern buildings constructed in traditional Ming and Qing Chinese architectural style and selling all kinds of things such as foods, antiques, Chinese calligraphy and painting, Shu embroidery, lacquer products, bamboo-woven products, folk handicrafts, tourist souvenirs, etc as well as housing performance halls and teahouses.
