We stayed at the famous El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, NM, the first night of our trip. Built in 1937, it was frequented by a long list of movie stars between the years of 1940 and 1964. While its decor and amenities may be a bit tired and dated, it has character and charm not to be found in the modern chains that look the same everywhere.
