Ann Fulweiler here; Great Photos of the Canal. My Father was stationed at Albrook Field in 1949 and we followed in 1950 when his name rotated up for quarters. As a photographer he had many opportunities to photograph the earthquake disaster areas and plane crash sites, the interior and the Canal itself, of course all our photos are B/W. Thank You for preserving a part of history that many don't know about until they see your photos.

we lived in the first quarters on the left at top of Cobe Hill 1956-59 my dad was an ordinance officer there. As a kid i enjoyed being there and have a lot of memories. Was there when Ike Eisenhauer came there (dad commanded his honor guard.) Liked going fishing on the J-Boats and going to Taboga and Tabagia islands. Learned young how razor grass cuts hands, dont play with the ferdilance in the yard and banana snakes are hard to see :o). Retired Army here. Had uncle was in same quarters way back in early fiftys. We were there when Alaska and Hawaii became states. Still have scar where i split my chin at pool at Hideaway beach.

Thanks for all of these great photos. I've been scanning and editing my grandfather's collection of over 2,000 photos of the Canal Zone beginning in 1911. My Great-grandmother's husband left the Boston area in 1911 to run a train engine on the Canal, she followed in 1912. My Great-grandfather arrived in Colon in 1913 and began working on the Panama Canal in early 1914 and in 1915, he went to Boston to marry my Grandmother and they returned to Panama where he stayed until his retirement in 1953. In 1919, Dad was born in Balboa, and in 1944 he met my Mom who was working for the Navy. It's amazing to see the changes that took place in Panama by following my Grandfather's photos through the years. In 1928 he entertained Col. Charles Lindbergh in the Prado by leading the Rainbow Girls as Drill Master. There's also a photo of FDR in a convertable just as he got off of the U.S.S. Houston after becoming the first sitting president to go through the Canal. Although I grew up knowing about Panama, I've just recently become more and more interested in the history.

We are soon going to do our first transit of the Canal, and have been watching with great interest the live Internet photos of ships going through both the Gatun and the Miraflores locks. But these photos of yours give us ground-level views that we could never get any other way. Thank you very much.

Great pictures. In the midd 50's and early 60's I travelled on the Santa Margarita and the Reigna Del Mar from Southampton to Ecuador. It has always been my wish to return through the canal. These pics are a wonderful up date. Thanks.Penny White, Eastbourne, England

We were stationed at Howard AFB 1965-66. Or, my father was in the air force. I was about 3-4 yrs old the first time we were stationed there and then again in 1973-75. I recongize a few a the pictures. Just wanted to say thank you for letting me view my past.

I have a collection of original photographs from the building of the Panama Canal. No Joke! Bought them at a garage sale in Portland, Oregon - I think they are a historical record from the "Willamette Western" dredging company located in St. John's, Oregon. Hi Jerry, I aboard USS Worcester CL-144 which was a light cruiser. The ship went through the Canal in January, 1956. I saw Army photographers taking pictures of us while we were in the Guiliard Cut. Where can I get copies of the pictures? I have been seeking the photographs for decades without any luck. Please advise.

I served in the US Army in Panama in the early 50's. I was there for a year and four months at Fort Kobe. These pictures are great. It has benn some time now since I am 79 years old.I would see a drawing of what the may look like in 2025.
