An update, April 24:
the lock is dead, long live the lock. The entire doorknob is missing, probably kicked apart in a fit of stupidity. I'll get a shot of that tomorrow. Two weeks to the day; not much endurance.
Original caption, April 10:
A brand-new lock on the outside door of my building. In the ten years I've been here, the average lifespan of a new lock is about three weeks. Someone destroys the lock and/or knob intentionally, either to avoid the hassle of having to unlock the front door, or of having to push the door unlock buzzer when guests arrive. Then it takes a few months to replace; and eventually it is replaced with much bureaucratic fuss, as if it's the first time.
So, welcome, shiny new lock and shiny new key. And good luck -- you're going to need it.
