so much for plan A

North Providence, RI

A while back, hereabouts: http://www.pbase.com/jason_daniel_anderson/image/90872009 a number of these phenomena appeared in the pond ice. Naturally my first strategy was to ignore them, which invariably results in the ignored things going away. Which they did.

However, they've come back, and in much greater numbers -- which invariably things that are upset at having been ignored do. The "thrown sandbag" explanation was evidently a red herring -- the sandbags were removed a few weeks ago. So at this juncture I have lots of holes and no theory to put them in.

It's so obvious now that you pointed it out that I'm a bit embarrassed. They're big spiders. Now the bigger (much bigger) question is, who or what stepped on them?

If you blur your eyes you can easily tell that those are giant spiders, Jason.
Arachnids, actually.
That is what we in Michigan call them when they get all over our ice.
We don't cotton to it.

Maire, I an no expert on emus, but I do know they are flightless and detest the cold -- two things that argue strongly against space travel. That said, yours is literally one of the likeliest theories I've heard yet.

John, all theories have holes. The only perfect theory is the Theory of Universal Imperfection, which states that absolutely everything is flawed except This Theory.

By a strange coincidence most of my theorys have holes in them.
