Smith’s Bush is a reserve of remnant mature native forest
located on the North Shore of Auckland, about 8kms from home.
There were several of Matai trees scattered in the bush,
and they caught my attention whenever I passed one.
I loved the look of their "hammer-like" bark – 2nd left.
Matai trees need plenty of light, so no more Matai can grow here until a large tree falls.
