Carmo Church as Seen From Rossio Square

Lisbon, Portugal

Carmo Church was cracked open like an egg in 1755 by an earthquake.
The quake all but destroyed Lisbon.
It is estimated that around 40,000 people died.
You can see here the church has no roof.
It's now an archaeological museum.
This earthquake was felt as far away as Scotland and Norway.

cool the church was preserved, perhaps as a memory of the tragedy....fine shot...like the implied perspective between fountain and tower..
