Collection of the rhizome (last 4 inches of new growth). In this case, the rhizome was being collected to treat a bleeding stomach condition. When asked, it was stated that the rhizome, in which 8 of the sections collected, would be pounded and the resulting liquid squeezed into a cup with water added. One cup would be drank a day until the condition was resolved. The pulped rhizome can also be placed into a cut to stop the bleeding.
When asked about the flavor, it was said to have a good taste.
There are many other uses for this plant from treatment of diabetes mellitus, wound infection and nausea.
