Called the Christian merchant by some, but not all, Mr. Dodge claimed thousands of acres of land and timber around the Ocmulgee and Jacksonville areas. The resulting conflict resulted in loss of lives on both sides. There was not much relief from the Civil War for some veterans. They had a war at home when they returned.
