We have this picture thanks to my sister, Sherrill Williams Ragans. It was on an old postcard dated 1911. Steamboats ran the Ocmulgee for close to 100 years. They were necessary to the river trade but they were dangerous vessels. Many exploded - killing or scalding those aboard. One of my kinsmen, Joseph B. Willliams was killed, with 13 others, in 1860 when the Gen. Manning exploded.
