This old overhead skidder was from another state but it illustrates the old overhead skidder we had on the Ocmulgee River. The Dopsons told me there was an overhead skidder near Barrows Bluff below Jacksonville, Ga. Men would actually attach a locomotive on the cable over the river (overhead skidder) and used this to transport items as there was no trestle at these places. I believe it was Gooney Andrews who told me that there was once an old platform near the river that perhaps served as one of the anchor for the overhead skidder. This just shows the determination of our pioneers to do what they needed to do to accomplish their goal. PS - Gail said the Rainbow Lodge is
just north of Truckee, California and has wonderful food. The picture of the old overhead
skidder hangs on the wall at the lodge.
