This is the second fireplace in our home, and in the long obscure past, it was the
only source of heat for this old home. The farm was built in 1912, and many years
ago the flue was plugged and the fireplace was converted to natural gas. Since the
home has central heat now, it’s rarely used for heat … but when I fire it up it is
quite toasty and can actually bring a sweat to the forehead on even the coldest days.
Most of the time we just keep this candelabrum set up … a throw-back to our mutual
“hippie” past perhaps.
