SRX02943 Deep in Ravine

About one am a few nights ago I heard a crash outside and wondered if a bear was up to no good. I looked out the windows and saw nothing. Next day I discoverd a huge tree and broken.

A man who's done tree clearance for us before came over yesterday and evaluated the damage to the red oak, telling us how he would cut it into pieces and use a winch to drag them out.

We could hire a company to bring in a crane to lift it out doing less damage to landscaping around it, but suspect the cost would be way more than what this man estimated, so we're going to have him come tomorrow to clear the mess.

I couldn't get close to it because of the steepness of the area, but I estimated the diameter of the trunk to be about one and a half feet. His guess was three feet! Curious to learn the actual measurement.

So sad to loose a beautiful tree, valuable wood if one cuts it right!
