Yellowing Rhododendrons

The three smaller rhododenrons in front of the large one by the windows have had their leaves yellowing and dropping. I put a question on the Asheville Plant People Facebook group and it was suggested that the new mulch we put down was probably leaching nitrogen from the soil. They suggested I pull the mulch away from the root area and spread Hollytone, but I had a large bag of Sta-Green Azalea/Camellia/Rhododendron food which has a good amount of nitrogen in it...and then put a lighter colored mulch on top. In the meantime I will water them regularly to wash in the fertilizer and watch to see the color improving.

What a lovely garden and home you have. I miss rhododenrons as I grew them when we lived in New Jersey and they grew large and bloomed like crazy. I don't see them here in Texas. And how refreshing to see a house that is not brick! I am so tired of seeing brick houses in Texas.

I must say your home is lovely and well situated beside the trees, and the garden beautiful.
In UK, we are often warned about planting close to walls because the soil can be very dry. Rhododendron and similar come from quite wet climates, so I am sure they appreciate the extra watering.
