I had never tried this mode, but a question from a member of Flickr caused me to investigate how it worked and I checked Friedman's e-book for the camera and learned it was quite easy, and remarkable for this handheld shot.
Not the ambient lighting, a combination of fluorescent bulbs in the pendant lights, incandescent floors in the ceiling and waning daylight outside. The Sony's auto white balance remarkably came up with great color.
At it's widest focal length the sides of the image leaned quite a bit, so I used some Photoshop distortion and scaling to make the perspective more realistic.
I'm thinking continuous bracketing might be better than hdr. Will have to make some comparison shots.
