Bruton Parish Church - Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

Bruton Parish Church was completed in 1715 (replacing an earlier parish church). It was the "court church of colonial Virginia" and pews for the governor, council and burgesses were included in the plans which were drafted by Governor Alexander Spotswood. Members of the Virginia House of Burgesses worshipped here. These members included George Washington, Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. Box pews in the church are marked with placques bearing the names of these and other famous men who worshipped here. The church has a fascinating history with ties to the American Revolution and also serving as a hospital for Confederate soldiers following the Battle of Williamsburg.
