I make no claim to being a bird photographer -- that is a specialty engaged in by a number
               of well-equipped enthusiasts who are doing excellent work. But I do like birds -- I started
               with them many years ago in the rain forests of SE Asia and still have boxes of slides
               waiting to be scanned. (some day...)

               I don’t carry a tripod in the field, so I’m normally not equipped to photograph birds when
               I'm working on bugs, herps or plants, so while I don’t chase birds, if a good one shows
               up I’ll grab a hand-held shot if I can. I particularly like shots of birds in
               flight, as well as those that reveal something about birds' lives.
