Insinger Saskatchewan "The Name Of The Church Tell's The Story"

Insinger is located on Hwy #16 North West of Yorkton SK. Once a busy little village the church now locked along with the few remaining stores and homes watches over it's quiet street's. Two tatered flags fly by the old school marked by little motion or activity. One only has to observe the name of the chuch to truly tell the story of this classic "Ghost Town"

William Re your message Dokia died 1945 @ age 56 = born 1889.. 1911 Canada census indicates B-1883.. 1916 census indicates B-1884.. I have looked at church birth register for these years,plus two prior and two after. nothing. also checked for Waselena birth, nothing . Also checked marriage register for Petro (Peter) and Eudokia (Dokia). All the years I checked ,cannot see names that I could interpret as Kohut or Sauldut in this village Sadagura

Hi Walter Thanks for your offer, I wish I knew more of my mothers family, her father's name was Anton, my mothers name was Dokia I think, not sure on that, she was Orthodox She died in 1945 @ 56 years old , came to Canada in 1904 ? with my oldest sister vasselena , guessing on spelling, via Bremer-Haven to{guessing} Halifax. Message for William Kohut. Please message me and I will send you photos of John Kohut from the early 1940's. He was a friend of my uncles and aunt. Apparently there were Kohuts throughout the area; I have found graves with your name in many of the cemeteries and if you look through the homestead maps they are there, too.

This is Kathy Gruell Deak posting again. I have come across a record on myfamilysearch.com of an old style card, like a 3x5 index card (like we used to see in doctor's offices or libraries. It does not give the name of the town, but the record says 2 babies died on whatever the date was in 1921 to Mr and Mrs d Gruhlke. I am looking for a Theodore and Maria Grewul (and variations on the name obvioulsy). They apparently had a child in 1921 and the wife had died around the time of the 1921 Canada Census as Theodore was widowed. I am wondering if this is them, if anyone knows anything about them, and where this community went to the doctor...where might we look for medical records. Hello Sharon. My mother and i were in Insinger this past Tuesday, doing a tourist thing. Visiting small town Saskatchewan instead of just driving by on our way to a destination. We did over 30 communities in 36 hours and had fun. She is 87 and I am 63. Had a 16 year old dog along for the boo. Took photos of that most beautiful church. Want to tell you I work with an Anna Kwasnica at Palliser Campus, in Moose Jaw. Not great info but am hoping somewhat helpful. My name is Sharon Larson, I am looking for information about my Grandmother netashia (nettie) Gravel Kwasnica. She was from Insinger until she married Fred Kwasnica and moved to Strongfield. Her mother lived with Grandma and Grandpa until she died of old age and dementia. Always wanting to go back to Insinger. We know only the name of one sister, Auntie Sherrick. We also know that Grandma donated some of GreatGrandmas items, Her beaded dress, other things the native canadaians taught her to make, to either the Church or museum,. Came across this website by accident, but just wanted to note that my company "Prairie Mapping Services" located in Theodore published a small history book of the Lawrie family and settlement outside of Insinger. It was done in partnership with Ken Moroz and it contains some history of the Village and RM as well as many pictures, images and historical documents. We also published a map and alphabetical index of names translated into english of the cemetery south of Insinger and this document is available as well.

Hi, All Current and Former Insinger Peoples, Just let you all know that my e-mail name is Stanley7 and e-mail address is shalek7@shaw.ca I still live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am also a deaf pensioner at my 74th year of age from my happy birthday on October 12 this autumn this year and still stay healthy and strong. I also was an Insinger School student for one year from Monday, August 21, 1944 to June 29, 1945. After I became naturally deaf for 3 months, effectively on Monday, September 3, 1945 I went to the Saskatchewan School for the Deaf in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I also was a deaf Saskatoon Quakers Club hockey player at my age of 16 under the N.H.L. Chicago Blackhawks property in the old Saskatchewan-Manitoba Junior Hockey League from 1956 to 1959. Then to St. Catherines Teepees in the Ontario Junior Hockey League only for one month of December, 1959, but I was not allowed to play for the Chicago Blackhawks in the N.H.L., because of my deafness reasonably. Mostly all my life I worked in the offset printing fields in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I got retired in 2003. Happy smile! Thank you. Stanley7 Halek

Hi, My son found this website and directed me to it. I was born approximately 3 miles north of Insinger. I was born in 1928. My parents names were George and Mary Haluik. I went to school 1 mile west or our farm and the name of the school was Wolkowetz. I lived there until I was 16 years old and then moved to Theodore from '44 to '45 where I worked for my aunt and uncle Len and Elsie Kuchinsky in their hotel and restaurant. I then moved to Canora and worked for Pawchucks, who also had a grocery store in Insinger (looks like the pic of the white building with blue/green along the bottom), and worked for them in their restaurant in Canora. My family moved into the town of Insinger around '55 and lived there until my father's passing in '70. My mother then moved to away until she passed away in '80. My husband, myself and 4 children moved from Canora in '56 and moved to Port Alberni, BC. I had a sister and her husband who also lived in Insinger from the early 50's to the early 70's and they had a gas station and car repair shop there. There names were Matt and Adella Hudemka. They then moved to Yorkton early 70's and Adella still lives there today. If you wanted to find out more info regarding Insinger, she would be the best to contact. You can email me and I will get you in touch with her. I am not familiar with the Lawrie family name and therefore can not share any info with you. I would be more than happy to speak to you as well regarding the time I did live there. Please email me your phone number and we can chat. I would love to hear more about where your family lived and where they went to school, etc. I have fond memories of Insinger, growing up, going to dances at the local hall, next to the Insinger school and then going to Graval's Cafe where we would all go for lunches during and after the dances. I too grew up in Insinger and have wonderful memories of frowing up there. It is heart breaking to see what used to be. Went to the reunion a number of years ago and it was wonderful to see so many people there. I see comments by The Gravel Family. Which Gravel are you? I was Elaine Graval. My Dad was Maxie and my Mom was Mary.

This is Mary Anne Kopan, married to George Kopan, George is the son of Matt and Sarah Kopan. His Uncle was George Kopan. His box number was 118 Insinger Saskatchewan. We live in Edmonds WA USA. Guest, I was wondering who Mary Anne kopan is related in Insinger sask. I'm think our box no was 118 at Insinger. I moved to BC in 1956.My dad name was George kopan and we lived 2 miles east of Insinger.

I took some beautiful pictures of the church in 2001 and was dismayed to to see it this year. It is looking so forlorn. I also took my camcorder with me and took shots of all the deserted houses. No one bothered us ...Just 2 older women out taking pictures LOL. Want to make a short video for YouTube on dying towns. Need some info of what happened.

I was quite surprised when I searched "Insinger" and this page was shown. From 1952 to 1966, I lived in the property referred to as DSC_7851 and 7853 and went to school in 7868. I remember countless hours spent at Pindus' pool hall 7858 learning the skill. The last time through Insinger was in 2001 however it is indeed, interesting to see these photos pop up on your computer screen.

Hoooooly Moley! I bicycled across Canada this summer, and one night I was about to camp the night in Insinger. The town was pretty creepy, but it was getting dark, so I found a nice patch of grass next to the church to lay my head. Before dark settled, I walked around town a little bit, and I looked in through the windows of the church. Little did I know that the paranoid residents had been watching me the whole time. I didn't see them, but they saw me. They were even nice enough to call the RCMP and try to get me arrested for trespassing. The police showed up and we had a nice chuckle about the weirdos that inhabited the town. While I was talking to the police, the town mob showed up, piled up in one car. The venomous looks I received from were dismaying to say the least. Thankfully, the folks (Brian and Mary) who live in the house across the highway came over to investigate (the residents also called him because he used to be a cop). They were nice enough to offer me a bed and a meal! So, overall, I have good memories of my night JUST OUTSIDE of Insinger. However, the town is full of freaks.
