They went to the Australian Outback Spectacular on Saturday night. Everyone came home with a hat.

I think just about everyone knows Steve Irwin, " The Crocodile Hunter " He died today while filming on the Great Barrier Reef when a Stingray tail pierced his chest.

Had to think of an old record at once, when I saw this: 'Sweetheart of the rodeo'. Don´t know why. Wonderful portrait, Laine. gmv

Steve's adventures and exploration will be missed around the world. May he rest peacefully in that great wilderness beyond.

Sincere condolances to his wife and family.

A beautiful portrait.

And your news about "The Crocodile Hunter" is really bad news. I always enjoyed his program.

Beautiful capture, excellent work in B&W.
Re. Steve Irwin - my kids and I just loved his programs on Animal Planet and Discovery channels. Were very moved when I read in the news today. It's a great loss and I still think it was His destiny. He loved what he was doing, always.

Excellent! Love the b&w effect Laine. Beautiful young lady!
Sad news about Steve, he died doing what he loved.......let me go with a camera in my hand.

A wonderful portrait, Grandma. I love the hat and the lighting makes it even more special. I just turned on my local news and they were reporting the story of Steve's death. How sad for his wife and children...he always fascinated me.
Guest 04-Sep-2006 11:05
I have no TV, and I still know the guy, to tell you how famous he was. That's a way to be spectacular until the last minute.
Superb portrait, with a somptuous background.

Gorgeous shot Laine! Dick went to the Outback Spectacular when we were in Q'land
and LOVED it - he has a hat too! Sorry about Steve - we did a detour past his
place when we travelled up the Bruce Highway and had a 70-k bumper to bumper
detour around a fatal accident. Feel for his wife and children...he's only the age
of our eldest daughter...
Hans Meerbeek04-Sep-2006 09:02
Excellent portrait!
Eckhart Derschmidt04-Sep-2006 08:59
Lovely portrait! Wearing a hat has become quite outfashioned in recent years (these 50ies movies, in which everyone wore a hat look quite strange to us now, don't they?), but probably in the Outback, one would not survive without one.... Re. Steve Irwin I can only second Jannick - what a way to die for a man like him.
Silvia Roitman04-Sep-2006 08:59
nice portreit!
Christin Tröger04-Sep-2006 08:49
Wonderful portrait.
Jannik Lindquist04-Sep-2006 08:45
That's one very stylish - and pretty - young woman! Yes, may Steve Irwin rest in peace. What a way to go for a man like him! On a mature, rational level I never liked him - but on a boyish "I love dangerous animals"-level I always found his shows very captivating :-)
