C/n 47834, newly arrived at Opa-locka for parting out and scrapping. Built in April 1980 and delivered to Iberia on 6/23/80. It was withdrawn from use in 2000 and stored in Madrid for part of the year and restored to service briefly in November 2000. It last flew from Caracas to Madrid in late November 2000 and then stored again in Madrid until December 2002. It has been stored in Mobile, Alabama since 2003 and flown to Opa-locka two days before I shot this image.
Behind N80946 is another ex-Iberia DC10-30 EC-GTB (ex KLM PH-DTG and ex VIASA YV-134C) which will also be parted out and scrapped.
Hurricane Katrina passed over Opa-locka Airport and most of Miami-Dade County the night before.
