My name is Larry Langston decedent of Solomon Langston of Laurens, South Carolina through his great grandson Jesse Langston. He immigrated to Florida in the 1850's. From what I have read parts Darlington County was changed to Florence. From Wikipedia..... Florence County was created out of parts of Darlington and Marion counties in 1888. Darlington County gave up additional territory in 1902 when Lee County was created.

My name is Lisa Cheryl Jones. Benjamin Howard Langston is in this picture and is my great Grandfather. (on far right, boy standing alone in white shirt) I also have a copy of this picture that belonged to my Grandmother, Clara Bell Langston-Pierce-Jones. My Grandmother died when she was 55, in 1971, she was hit by a train in Florence County, SC. My father is Joseph Fulton Jones Sr. She had 4 sons, Don, Joe, Howard and Hubert. Howard is deceased at the time of this writing, but Don, Joe and Hubert are all living and in SC. All have children/grandchildren/great grandchildren. My email address is lisa2dbeach@yahoo.com, if anyone is interested in getting in touch with me. I have some pictures of my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother, but would be interested in ANY photos that others may have of my part of the limb.

My uncle Joe Langston lives in timmonsville, along with his son Jason and Jason's son, Joseph. My uncle joe had a brother named, Ervin Langston. Don't know if these are the descendants of the people in the pic? I'm guessing so. Anyways, that house in the background is very familiar. I'm thinking this was once on my uncle joes property. Possible tre down? Not sure. This is Meagan helms, email is meaganswork1@gmail.com

I am researching my husband's Langston roots and have not been able to get further than Bennie Langston (born 1868 in Darlington County/perhaps Florence - died between 1900 and 1910) who married Rachel Marilla Strickland (known as Rillie). They were parents to Madison Ardell, Redden Harley, and Mattie Agatha. Bennie must tie in with the Langston families in the Florence/Darlington area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My grandmother Corina is in this picture. This house, is, I believe, still standing, and the last time I was there, the bench on the porch was still there. The front room on the right has a small access cut in the ceiling, high above. I was told when I was a child that it was put there to hide valuables from the Union soldiers. The chimney on the right had a huge crack in it caused by the great earthquake of 1886. There was also a separate old kitchen building which is probably older than the house itself. My mother, Ernestine Langston, can identify everyone in the photo.

Hi, I am Jane McGee Pierce. My maternal grandmother was Corina Langston Lee. I believe she is the young lady standing behind Joseph Langston ( the dress with the puffy sleeves) She died when I was five or six so I don't remember much about her. I have had this picture for awhile and came across this on facebook. Some people from Timmonsville has a group under Timmonsville, SC . I would be glad to talk with some of you who are related. My email is jpierce28@hotmail.com.
Robert W. Ashmore 18-Mar-2011 23:36
Thank you for posting this picture. I am searching for information on my great grandfather, Robert W. Ashmore, who was probably born in the Darlington, SC area in about 1832. He later became a school teacher and moved to Wakulla County Florida in the 1850s at about the time a number of Langstons moved there from South Carolina. His father may have been James Ashmore, and his mother may have been Jane Ashmore, who lived in Darlington. I know some things about the Langstons who moved to Wakulla County, including that one, Jesy Langston, died while serving as a Confederate soldier in the same Company as my great grandfather.

I just wanted to post a correction regarding the county this house was located and instead of Darlington, it is Florence. If I am incorrect, please email me with documentation. If Juanita's descendants are interested in corresponding I would appreciate any information they have to share or just chat. If any of the others also, I would like more info on our relatives, My Grandfather was Benjamin Howard Langston and he died in May 1958. He was married to Edna Hartsfield (Tallahassee FL) she died May 1960.

Joseph B. "Ben" Langston 31-Mar-2010 01:58
Hi all. I'm the Ben Langston who originally passed this photo along. I was given this photo by my Grandmother, Jacqueline Welsh Langston and Grandfather, Joseph Franklin Langston. This picture is set in Timmonsville and my grandmother knew all of the names (at least the first names) of the people in this picture. I went to visit my grandmother again recent and she's given me more very old pictures that have been in the family for a long time that I'll eventually be scanning in and sending to those that are interested. My G-grandfather, Benjamin Howard, GG-Grandfather Joseph, and GGG-Grandfather Ervin (I think he's my GGG-grandfather) are all in this picture, which of course is VERY exciting to find.

If anyone is interested, their burial plots are at Sparrow Creek (or Swamp) Baptist Church near Timmonsville, SC. By the way, one of Benjamin Howards son's Franklin (my grandfather) is still alive and just turned 91 years old.

I have this photo and have information regarding all the names of those who are in this picture.....It was taken by a traveling photographer who called all the men, women, and children in to take this picture....the boy in the white shirt was my grandfather....Ben Langston.......I would love to email, speak with any who have more information. My mother, Ben's youngest daughter is still alive and her older brother, still alive. His other five children have passed away. Anyone please add to my family geneology as we are actively doing this for our grandchildren .....so surprised to see this photo .......My mother and uncle still live in Florence, one on the original home area and my mother in Florence. Thanks for any further information you are willing to share....have older cousins with more photos and information than I do
