anxious arms hotel, san francisco

I don't know if Anxious Arms is really the name of the hotel, or if it was a joke, but there it was. I love the name, it sounds too smarmy to be real, like somethng out of a country-western song...

I took this with the ricoh SLR one crisp morning in 1987, on b&w film, then brought it back home and colored it with felt tipped pens. it's been kicking around for years, most recently on my refrigerator door.

I lived at the “Anxious “ when I first moved to SF in 1982. The owner was a guy named Hap and we had a daily continental breakfast of day old “thrift” danish daily for a ridiculously low price. Many a friendship evolved from the TV room. Some of those friendships were platonic.

Yes. This was a real place. I believe the building is still there operating as a hotel under a different name. A bit more upscale now.

Stayed there overnight in the 80's. It was an old miner's hotel. The amenities were: 2 single beds with a sink in the room , a communal shower (you go down the hall to take a shower, much to the delight of the gay clientele), a porn movie room and a 4 person jacuzzi. A weird but fun experience.

A lovely little boutique hotel. I stayed there for a few days in 1981. Sorry it's gone.
