The parish of St. Adalbert was founded in 1886, amid much controversy. The present structure was built in 1891, and was designated America's first basilica in 1907. Today it appears intact, and in good repair, however, the organ does not appear functional, although I don't know that as a fact. What I do know is that the current rector, Father Bocianowski, is one of those individuals you meet now and again, who within minutes you feel like you've known them for a long time, and exudes a strong sense of purpose and leadership.
