Sanderling

Holy Island north coast

these are very busy little birds typically scouring an area of sand/weed at a trot; had just about got the rate of pursuit right when 3 walkers charged by totally oblivious...I suspect them of being in mixed flocks in Suffolk, but have not seen them like this since Cornwall 2008

Can almost smell the sea air in this colourful and lovely shot. Sanderlings are such beautiful little shorebirds and it is quite the sight to see great flocks of them lifting off and wheeling against the sky. V
