Sahara Desert, sandfish skink (MOROCCO)

Morocco

This was an interesting little creature who kept burrowing in the sand every time the camel handler pulled it out so I could take a picture. Maybe he was camera shy.

Thanks to Milan, I now know this is a sandfish skink (Scincus albifasciatus laterimaculatus).

Very cool. Aside from being shy it looks to be really healthy.

Certainly gets my weird creature of the day award. It make me wonder what they live on. Wonderful shot of him. ~BV~

Is amazing how they survive in this extremely hot and cold weather and without enough water. A great and interesting capture, Helen. BV

He blends in well with the sand. I bet he wanted to hide…it must have been hot there. V

It's makes my skin cringe - I'm not into critters like this.

Fascinating! I've photographed two kinds of skinks here. Shy creatures - you have to be fast with the focus and shutter press. How big was it?
