Barry, I assume the longer handle allows the kettle to be hung over an open fire or the hot coals in an older type of stove. But you can't pour with it. The shorter handle in the back would be for grasping (with a pot holder)and pouring. This is antique enamelware. There is no cover with it, though.

Michael, yes indeed. "Waltzing Matilda" refers to the swagman waiting while his billy boiled. I guess that would be the same idea.

I remember these things from years ago, made of enamelled steel and they had an cup that fitted upside down on the top. Dad had one and would make his tea in it then take it to work with him. He could always put it on top of a stove to rewarm the tea as required. He called it a billycan.

Good take on the thme. I thought it was you wearing red! Now, a silly question but why are there 2 handles?

Innocent looking object, but very effective. Well done. Red stripe makes it much more interesting.

Thanks Shirley! It came with my place and is quite old indeed. The red and other parallel stripes are from my wash on the line. I liked the way it reflected so I shot from that side. I think the red was a sweatshirt.

I really like your pitcher, it looks like it's been around quite a long time. Well lit and I like that stripe of bright red! Someone was wearing red yesterday! ;o)
