I began taking more notice of, and seeking out more of, the tiny spiders that shelter low in grasses, plants and even on the ground. The cobweb spiders, the bowl-and-doily weavers, the sheet-web weavers, etc. This one is about 4 mm in size.
You can tell it is a male because of the enlarged palps (proper term, pedipalps) which are the small leg-like things coming out of the face, and which in the male have swollen tips. One guide I read said that they are held out "like little boxing gloves". Exactly!
