Mr Stern

For Me to Sail around the Dalmatian Islands for the next fortnight
I need to have some sort of Skipper Identification and needed some passport photos.

So popped out to the Photo Booth this morning and followed the Instructions on screen

1. Adjust the seat height until your face fits inside the oval displayed
2. Make sure your hair is pushed back from you face and behind your ears
3. Make sure that you face and shoulders are square on to the screen
4. Do not tilt your head forwards or backwards
5. Keep your eyes open and looking straight forward
6 Do not smile

woosh – the booth was lit from front and back and the result was
four identical “perfect” passport photos, flat, featureless, unsympathetic and booring.

Now compare that with a self portrait below that was taken a few months back,
with some very little changes the image just comes alive.

The light was from one side, and a spot light behind
Shoulders and face turned to one side, with the head turned slightly back towards the camera.
The head is tilted forward
The camera is higher than the eye line and the glasses are slightly pulled forward

Not much of a change from a standards passport photo, but what a difference..

Now I know that you can do a lot more in a photo booth, I was just being pedantic and following the instructions..

Nice shot (yours), but why are you going as Mr. Stern? Or am I not supposed to ask ;o)

A great comparison. I think you were lucky the Photo Booth did actually did its job. Most of the time they are out of order.

I hope you remembered to pull you hair back from behind your ears after you were done ;-)

It doesn't look like you at all! Hope you have a FABULOUS time, I'm very jealous - it's a beautiful area round there, especially if you're on a yacht! (Remember PORT is LEFT, not a drink, OK?!)

How flat the booth photo looks ! The other is so 3 dimensional.
I'm envious of your trip - we had a similar one planned some years ago, but it was cancelled at the last minute due to the revolution.
