Hi Ian. I am a new convert to spotting steam engines. Where is the best place to view the Galatea from on Saturday 9th November ascending to Shap summit. I am prepared to do a bit of walking to get a great view. GR would be brilliant. Fantastic photos!

GUEST.
Hi Ian,
My current project is the London, Tilbury & Southend Railway. While well out of your territory you might be able to help me.
I want images of 4-4-2T locomotives as well as British Rail 2-6-4T numbered from 80000.
Some of these 80000 locos were sent north after 1962 which was when the LT&SR was electrified.

Hi Ian, I used some of the ken laidlaw images in a blog post about the upcoming 2011 event. They were flagged up as free to download for participants, but I just wanted to check that was OK. www owenphilipson.com/blog/2011/01/30/pic-of-the-day-ken-laidlaw-2010/

I'm doing another blog entry with more links to your gallery and the event itself.

From Teries everywhere I'm sure they would like me to thank you for such a wonderful coverage of the Common Riding once again. Your photographs are just superb.
Brian 21-May-2009 14:13
Hello Mr.Bell (Ian), It's Brian (from Leeds...... again! :-) I just wanted to say you are a legend. Just humble words I know but I am sure I can speak for many that we are all very grateful to you and others like yorself who take the time, effort and love of steam by sharing your images. Your photo images are very impressive and stir the emotions with the memories of the golden days of steam. Although I was/am mainly an LNER supporter my favourite image of yours is the view of Scots Guardsman (page 8?).
They do have preserved steam here on occassions in Australia but their engines just don't seem to have BR's gracefull lines that attract the eye, power-looking, and lack names. I will live to the end of my days (which I fear may not be to far away bnecause of age :-) cursing myself that I had 'copped' all the A1's apart from Bon Accord (60154) because ladies came on the scene and steam got put aside. Deep regrets especially when I lean't it had been scrapped and worse of all it had spent some time shedded at Leeds my home city!!!. I should have been on medication :-)
Kindest Regards,
Brian

Ian supurb pictures. I do a hobby called geocaching. (www.geocaching.com) I have a caching name englishpete, I am about to release a travel bug into the big wide world, which will be an N gauge point to travel to railway locations. I would like to use one of your picture on it's log. They are much better than any I have. I have done a little work on No 9 here in Thornton in the late 80's.

Hi Ian

The Community council is examining the possibility of changing the colour of the christmas light panels. To illustrate what they might look like we need a photo that can be recoloured to give and impression of there appearance.

Can we have your permission to you the photo of Oliver place in your gallery. It would involve us putting various recoloured images on a blog so that people can see what they would look like. it would not be used for any commercial purpose and an acknolagement would be given.

Regards

PS to the previous comment: NO, the poeple who ride are very hard working Hawick men who save up all year to be able to enjoy this very important part of our heritage.

Ian: Just came by your photos and particularly enjoyed the excellent steam train ones, brings back memories of running across from my Gran's house directly across in Station Road- Stow, to get the Saturday "pink paper" (Evening News) off the 6pm Sat.night train for my Grandpa ! Hoping the line's definitely coming back .. although it's slipped from 2008 to 2011 latest news.
- Do you have any photos of anything down the Edinburgh-Gala line - my Dad would just love to see these .. JohnM.

I am glad to know you know Frankie Ford; he entertained us often. It will take a long time for New Orleans to rebound. 80 per cent of it has been ruined by the water and it seems a slow process of cleaning up and settling insurance. Some 5,000 homes have been declared uninhabitable and need to be destroyed. Makes me think "Where are all the people who lived here and how are they doing?"
Bill Baird 16-Dec-2005 21:43
Hi Ian
Great pictures especially like the steam loco stuff role on the Waverly Route and hopefully some specials running down the re-instated all line the way to Carlisle
